Dr Taylor, a former curator of paintings, drawings and prints at the National Maritime Museum, will talk about Grace Darling’s daring rescue of survivors from the wrecked steamship Forfarshire off the Northumberland coast in 1838. He will also cover the artistic contribution that helped keep her story alive in the public eye, as well as her role as a “poster girl” for the RNLI and the first woman to be awarded their medal for gallantry.
